A Special Kind Of Peace Demonstration

Recently we saw enormous “peace” demonstrations going on in protest against the war in Iraq. When some of these “peace” protests turned violent the height of hypocrisy had been reached. Protesters – some of them professing to be “Christians” – proudly displayed the “peace”-sign which is a heathen symbol used by the Germanic tribes as a symbol of death and the Roman emperor Nero – a ruthless persecutor of Christians – used it, too. I don’t know what the “peace”-sign has to do with real peace. According to my American Heritage dictionary that word means “absence of war or other hostilities” (did you see how hostile the “peace” protesters were toward America and our President George W. Bush?); it also means “freedom from quarrels and disagreement; harmony” (then why are those “peace” protesters quarreling live on TV?); it means “public security and order” (there was no order in San Franciso and in New York or in other places when the “peace” protesters were there); peace also means “serenity” (and there is not much of that either for the oppressed Iraqi people nor for us while terrorists and tyrants are plotting against us).

Demonstrating the true peace that comes through Jesus Christ alone.

I am deeply saddened at the gullibility of millions of human souls when they are walking the streets of major cities and demonstrating for the wrong “peace”, a false “peace” when there is no peace.

I was in Germany for two weeks recently  and I personnaly participated in a true “peace demonstration” – but this is the true peace of God that comes through salvation. On the streets of donwtown Heidelberg I joined an effort by Bible Baptist Church in Heidelberg in passing out hundreds of Gospel tracts (Jack Chick comic tracts) and pastor Thomas Castellaw stood by the roadside in a pedestrian precinct where thousands of people walked by and held a huge banner in his hand displaying John 3:16 in big letters and a message about how Christ sacrificial death for us is real and how it behooves us to turn to Christ in repentance and faith in His shed blood by which we have peace with God. Praise God! This is a public “peace” demonstration for the Lord. While millions of deceived people go on the streets protesting for a temporal, shallow peace that means nothing anyway, only a handful of people go on the streets to proclaim publickly and from house to house how great a salvation there is in Christ who is our peace. Did you ever notice that? Millions of people join these useless and hypocritical anti-American “preace” demonstrations, but they can’t understand why Christians stand in the streets passing out Gospel tracts or talking to people about the Lord and about the condition of their soul. Many of those people in Heidelberg tried to ignore us, they laughed at us, returned greetings with four-letter-words, made a big circle around us, etc.

Nevertheless, my heart goes out to those people with compassion because they are lost and on their way to everlasting punishment in hell. They ignore the warning. Lord, open their eyes before it is too late! There is not much time left. Now is the time where they can turn to the Lord and make peace with God – the only peace that counts. Why does it count? Well, supose Saddam Hussein had received Christ at a young age, then what? Yes, the whole mess would not have happened! See, that is why it is important to join “real peace of God” demonstrations and let people know that there is a loving Saviour who wants to save us, help us, and call us to a holy life of surrender to Him.
